On Friday, November 11, Retired Army Staff Sergeant Jerry Wade Bay visited Mrs. Callender’s 4th grade classroom. Mr. Bay’s grandson, Ben McConville, had invited him to share his story of service and the medals he was awarded with the class.

Ben’s mom, Buffie McConville, Holden R-3’s Special Services Director, joined them and carried the flag and awards display around so the students could see it up close and ask questions. The pride Mrs. McConville has for her dad’s service was apparent as she relayed stories of his time in the army, as well as his continued involvement with the Disabled American Veterans organization.
