Welcome to Holden R-3!
Our District
The Holden R-3 School District is an attractive district with a great heritage and unlimited potential for the future. The district is a rural PreK-12 school that serves most of western Johnson County, Missouri, and a small portion of Cass County, Missouri. The district covers a total of 208 square miles.
The Holden School District operates an Early Childhood Center, a K-5 Elementary School, 6-8 Middle School, a 9-12 High School, and a 9-12 Alternative School. The school buildings reside on one campus located on the south side of town inside Holden city limits. The district currently has approximately 1,200 students. Around 45% of these students' families qualify and participate in the free/reduced meals program.
The Holden School District offers each student a rigorous curriculum which prepares graduates to be competitive in the future. We continue to work to provide a strong education that is forward thinking while also being centered around the essential skills every child needs to know to be a productive citizen both now and in the future. Positive school experiences and a strong foundation that includes technology will help our students to be highly skilled and marketable in a very competitive 21st century global economy.

Our Community
Holden is a small town with a population of 2,200. The Holden community enjoys the quiet peace and beauty of the rural Missouri countryside, but is just a short drive from Kansas City and all of the attractions of a major metropolitan area. Many of our residents work in the Kansas City metro or its suburbs, in areas such as sales, management, business, science, arts and service.
Although Holden is situated near a major metro area, much of Johnson County, Missouri, is still made up of rich farm fields, pastures and cool, quiet timberland. Western Johnson County features rolling prairie land dotted with farms, lakes and ponds, woods, trails, and small residential tracts. Holden’s unique combination of country living located conveniently near a major metro area offers the opportunity to live and grow in a relaxed, friendly and community-minded atmosphere.
The Holden R-3 School District has strong community ties which allow many positive partnerships with the many supportive businesses, civic and faith-based organizations throughout the school district. The district is proud of our schools and are truly honored by the support of our Holden Eagle community.
