Isabella McQueary Wins Statewide Writing Contest
Holden Middle School 8th grader Isabella McQueary has been named the western Missouri winner of a statewide writing contest sponsored by the Missouri Peace Officers Association (MPOA). The annual contest invites 8th grade students to reflect on timely issues, and this year’s topic was “Today’s Challenges and Threats: Explain Your Three Greatest Concerns That Your Generation Faces.”
Isabella’s thoughtful and compelling essay stood out among submissions from across western Missouri. She was awarded first place in her region, earning a $300 prize. In recognition of their support, Isabella’s teacher, Mrs. Tobi Chambers, received $100 for her classroom, and Holden Middle School also received $100.
Tom Krahenbuhl, a representative from MPOA, visited Holden Middle School to present Isabella with her award in person on Tuesday, April 22 at 4:00 p.m. Isabella was joined at the presentation by her parents, Sarah & Richard McQueary; her brother, Ryan; and Holden Middle School Principal, Mr. Kyle Stoecklein — all there to celebrate her achievement.
As part of the district’s celebration of her achievement, Isabella has been invited to share her essay with the Holden R-3 Board of Education at their upcoming meeting on Monday, May 12.
“This is an amazing achievement,” said Mrs. Chambers. “We are so proud of Isabella’s insight, thoughtfulness, and hard work!”
The MPOA writing contest aims to encourage civic awareness, critical thinking, and written communication skills among Missouri’s youth.
