FFA Officers Attend Leadership Conference

Six Holden High School students recently represented the Holden FFA Chapter at the FFA Leadership Conference held September 15 at Butler High School. Chapter officers attending included President Sean Anstine, Vice President Hailee Lloyd, Secretary Kyleigh Stowell, Treasurer Matthew Hull, Sentinel Justice Barker, and Reporter Mila Turpin. The conference brought student leaders together from across the region to sharpen teamwork, communication, and leadership skills.

One of the highlights for Holden’s officer team was the Ag Olympics, where teams competed in fun challenges designed to strengthen collaboration. “Our big takeaway was that teams thrive when everyone brings their different strengths to the table,” Matthew shared. “It helped us see how we can use those skills to have better outcomes as a group.” The officers also noted that the sessions helped them improve their communication. “We learned that not everyone communicates the same way, and that’s important to know so we can be effective leaders,” Sean said.

FFA is a natural fit for many of Holden’s students. “I participate because I already do agriculture and farm-related activities in my everyday life,” Kyleigh explained. “FFA helps me learn how to lead and become more knowledgeable in the work I already do.” The officer team meets regularly to prepare ideas before presenting them to the larger chapter. “It’s easier if the framework is already there,” they explained, “but we always stay open to new ideas for improvement.”

Looking ahead, Hailee mentioned that the Holden FFA Chapter hopes to increase activities and membership this year. Community support plays an important role in making those goals possible. “You can help by attending our events, purchasing fundraiser items, and recognizing FFA members who volunteer in the community,” she said.

The chapter’s food sales (fruits, chocolates, cheeses, meats, cookie dough and candy) fundraiser kicks off in October through 4 Seasons Fund Raising. Orders can be placed online - look for a link soon on the Holden FFA Facebook page - or in person during the FFA Alumni Hog Roast at the home football game on October 10, where order forms will be available.
